Sup, snackers—

We’ve all been told that adding more fruits and vegetables to our diets is one of the best things we can do to improve sleep, mood, judgement, and overall health. And that’s true.

When people talk about avocados as one of the healthiest foods available, is it simply because they are a fruit, or is there something else about avocados that is uniquely healthy?

Let's explore!

First, the obvious. Avocados are unique for a fruit because they are high in fat, similar to coconuts and olives (yes, olives are also fruit). However, unlike coconuts, which are primarily saturated fat (bad news for cholesterol levels), olives and avocados are both much higher in unsaturated fats.

In terms of overall nutritional value, avocados trounces  olives, containing more than three times the the amount of fiber and greater amounts of vitamins (B, C, E, K) and most minerals. But let’s give credit where credit is due; olives edge out our beloved ‘cados in iron and calcium. Golf clap.

These indisputable nutritional facts are enough to support the advice to substitute avocado for your other current dietary fats, including olives. But there's something even more special about avocados, and it relates to heart health: they have been shown to lower cholesterol, specifically "bad" cholesterol (LDL). High levels of LDL cholesterol is one of the key risk factors for heart disease, the number one cause of death in Americans.

There are two downsides to avocados, and airfare (via our new snack partner Earnest Eats) has solved them both. First, they go bad, or "oxidize," quite quickly. No worry there; the avocados now available to airfare members are dried. Second, since they are so delicious, it’s hard to control your calories. Have you ever willingly stopped eating chips and guac? Us either. Welp, that’s the good thing about travel-sized portions. You get the avocado, without the avo-belly.

So, let's count: Win, win, win, win. Bottom line: get your ‘cado on with our newest snack options: three flavors of  snacking avocado from San Diego-based Earnest Eats.

Founder Andie Aussie started the company in 2007 with friends and family in Solana Beach, San Diego, a place he used to visit while growing up in Michigan.

The idea for the company is in the name—Earnest. As in sincerity, conviction.  That's how they feel about the ingredients they put in their foods, and the foods they put in their bodies. As Earnest's motto says, "put good in, get good out."

The company started out with on-the-go oatmeals and has recently added these delicious avocado snacks, and 'cado lovers across the world rejoiced in grateful harmony.

Where are the avocados from? Hot off an organic ranch in Mexico. Well, maybe cold off the ranch would be more accurate—freeze dried, to be exact.

Try one or all of the three flavors in your next pouch: Sea Salt, Sea Salt Lime, or Roasted Chipotle.
